Snowman Popcorn Treats

These adorable snowman make terrific snacks or favors for your favorite children. They require quick handling before the mixture cools. If the mixture cools before you can add all of the decorations, simply affix them with a little bit of frosting. An extra pair of hands works great for this recipe, one set to form the snowman with greased hands and another to add the decorations.

Container of butter for greasing utensils and hands. ( Save remainder for later. )
8 cups of popped popcorn
6 cups of miniature marshmallows
6 tablespoons of butter
16 pretzel sticks
8 black licorice pieces
8 long thin strips of fruit leather
8 pieces of orange taffy formed into carrot shapes
16 chocolate chips
1 package of red shoestring licorice
24 red hot cinnamon candies

Grease a large bowl heavily with butter. Place the popcorn in the greased bowl. Combine the marshmallows and butter in a large heavy saucepan over medium heat. Cook until the mixture melts and becomes smooth, stirring constantly. Pour the marshmallow mixture over the popcorn. Toss until coated. Using well buttered hands, make 1 small ball and 1 medium ball with the popcorn mixture. Press together to form a snowman shape. Repeat with the remaining popcorn mixture to form 8 snowman. Push a pretzel stick on each side of the large ball to form stick arms. Place a licorice piece on top of the smaller ball for a hat. Wrap a strip of fruit leather around the snowman's neck for a scarf. Press the orange taffy pieces onto the small ball for a nose. Add 2 chocolate chips for eyes and a small length of red shoestring licorice for the mouth. Press three cinnamon candies into the large ball to form buttons. Let the snowman sit until thoroughly dry before serving or storing. For a Low Fat Variation use low fat margarine in place of the butter.
